Preparing a telecom provider’s environment for a database server migration

The architecture was designed as a direct mirror of the existing production platform. This was achieved by promoting a test environment to a second production environment. It included all the same legacy components: ETL (IBM DataStage), the data warehouse (IBM Netezza), a Hadoop cluster (IBM BigInsights), and data replication (IBM Fluid Query).

With our assistance, the client successfully launched a second production environment that mirrored the original, enabling a key preparatory step for their migration. They also achieved process optimization, successfully running initial processes on weaker infrastructure. This allowed them to correct potential errors and prepare reports comparing the two environments, de-risking the final migration.

The main objectives were to promote the existing test environment and establish a second, parallel production environment. After this, the goals included migrating projects and production structures to the new environment, running initial processes to identify and correct potential errors, and preparing reports summarizing processing on both platforms.

The migration environment involved IBM Netezza as the data warehouse, IBM InfoSphere DataStage for ETL, IBM BigInsights as the Hadoop cluster, and IBM Fluid Query for data replication. The tech stack also included the Hortonworks Data Platform and IBM AIX as part of the system's infrastructure.
