Project overview

Our client needed support in two closely connected areas: enhancing software delivery within its business-facing web application landscape and further developing its Databricks-based data platform. Application development remained essential for delivering usable business functionality, while the data engineering work was carried out in an environment where Databricks had already become the center of data engineering.

Our engagement covered software development work around a web application organized into business initiatives, with particular focus on the forest domains. On the data platform side, the key need was to strengthen and extend a modern Azure-based setup built around Databricks.

Client background

A forest industry group focused on sustainable forestry, wood processing and renewable materials. It operates across multiple sectors connected to forestry, including wood products, energy and bio-based innovation, and serves markets in Scandinavia, Central Europe, the UK, North America and Asia.

Goals

The overarching aims were to increase delivery capacity and support the long-term evolution of our client’s platform and product ecosystem. This included support of the development of a web application for business initiatives, building and extending frontend functionality, strengthening and extending an Azure-based setup built around Databricks, moving processing logic away from Airflow and into Databricks-native orchestration, as well as developing and maintaining DBT-based transformations.
