Project overview

As part of a migration from IBM Netezza to EMC Greenplum, the client needed a second integration environment that mirrored the production platform.

To achieve this, a test environment was promoted to the second production environment, including extract, transform, load (ETL) (using IBM DataStage), a data warehouse (IBM Netezza) and a Hadoop cluster (IBM BigInsights) along with a data replication mechanism (IBM Fluid Query).

Client background

Our client is a leading telecommunications provider in the Middle East and offers a range of services, including broadband internet, mobile plans and advanced data center solutions, to individuals, businesses and government organizations.

Goals

The aim of this project was to promote the test environment to a second production environment and migrate projects and production structures to the new environment. Our team was also tasked with carrying out the initial launch of processes to correct potential errors and preparing reports summarizing the processing on two production environments.

Results

Effective environment promotion

Launching a second production environment

Process optimization

Successfully executing all initial processes that were optimized for weaker infrastructure

Smooth solution migration

Correctly displaying data for sources not subject to modification between process launches on two environments

FAQ

How was the architecture of the migration environment designed to mirror production and support the transition from the legacy system?

The architecture was designed as a direct mirror of the existing production platform. This was achieved by promoting a test environment to a second production environment. It included all the same legacy components: ETL (IBM DataStage), the data warehouse (IBM Netezza), a Hadoop cluster (IBM BigInsights), and data replication (IBM Fluid Query).
